What I Read in April

april

April was a busy month for me! I started writing for WatchPlayRead and I read a lot of books (4 books, 1 audiobook, and 7 graphic novels). I also met bestselling author, Marissa Meyer! I took a ton of notes from when she spoke at the local public library and will be posting all about it soon! But first, here is my monthly wrap up:

ONYX
by Jennifer L. Armentrout

This is the second book in the Lux series. These books are crazy popular and I enjoy the characters but the redundant jabs at Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight saga have soured my opinion of the series. Particularly, since the Lux series is essentially Twilight with aliens. Both books also have the evil phrase, “I let out the breath I didn’t know I was holding.” Onyx has it twice. You can read all about my feelings on that YA cliché and others here. I really want to love this series. So many of my favorite book bloggers do, so I probably will read the third book, Opal, but not any time soon.

I finally finished my audiobook of The Book Thief. This book blew me away. I was amazed by the incredible writing. The author has a true gift. His writing is so rich with detail and heart that every sentence felt real. Also, Allan Corduner does a fantastic job as the narrator, death. An emotional read and one that will stay with me.

My favorite book I read this month! I loved this book so much! Such fantastic world building and interesting, lovable characters. I’m not sure if I will be posting a review or not, but if you would like one, please leave a comment below. I also met the author, Marissa Meyer this month and had my copy signed. So exciting! I am working on a post all about it but I have a ton of notes to go through first. I think I may have overdone it. Fangirl overload! I also read the short story Glitches, which is a prequel to Cinder. I will be reading Scarlet and Cress just as soon as I can. Love, love, love this book!

I have also been catching up on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer comics and reviewing them. I read Angel: After the Fall, Spike: The Complete Series, Spike: Shadow Puppets, Spike: Asylum and volume one of Buffy Season 8. I’m really enjoying my Buffy reading marathon so far. I’ve read most of these before but it’s been a few years. I’m looking forward to catching up to season 10. I included links to my reviews in the titles.

  1. I read a few pages of Cinder at a bookstore once and it didn’t really catch my attention, but I’ve seen a lot of positive things said about the book, maybe I’ll give it another go 🙂
